Student-run Christian group Unity in Christ will be facilitating "Battle of the Clubs," an event pitting various on-campus organizations against one another in challenges involving general knowledge, school trivia, athletic ability and appetite, Unity in Christ spokesperson Robby Valderrama said.
"We just really wanted to hold an event that brought many different campus clubs together," said Valderrama, a sophomore majoring in business.
Valderrama said that any club that is recognized by Unity in Christ or by Associated Students is eligible to submit as many five-member groups as they want.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the Student Union Barrett Ballroom and will run until approximately 8:30 p.m.
"I'm very excited for 'Battle of the Clubs' and can't wait to see the different clubs compete," said Ryan Richards, a junior majoring in sociology. "I want to see which club is superior."
Richards will be assisting Unity in Christ in running some of the competitions during the event, he said.
Valderrama said that after meeting at the Student Union to kick off the "Battle of the Clubs," all teams will select members to be placed into five unique categories: smartest, most popular, most spirited, hungriest and fastest.
Based on which categories club members fall into, they will compete in the first round of events that will be scored by Unity in Christ officials.
The "smartest" competition will take place in the San Jose Memorial Chapel and will be a general knowledge trivia contest, Valderrama said. Popular culture questions will be asked in a similar format at the Barrett Ballroom for the "most popular" competition.
For the "most spirited" segment, competitors will meet in front of the Event Center and will have to answer questions and locate items around the SJSU campus in a scavenger hunt type activity, Valderrama said.

Good write up Mark. Sucks that this wasn't in the actual paper itself. Would have helped promote the event better. But hey, the whole event was a huge sucess
