Disposing of e-waste the right way

Twenty-four volunteers and community members helped collect about 20,000 pounds of electronic waste throughout Santa Clara County on Saturday and Sunday as part of a two-day e-waste recycling event. The Center for Development of Recycling, which is a nonprofit entity at SJSU, and the company First Choice Recycling joined together with E-Waste recycling to collect and dispose of used electronics in an environmentally friendly way. A skateboard, a wheel from a go-kart, a motor and battery pack from an electric scooter, a circuit board from a computer and sensors from a Nintendo Wii remote can constitute a new form of personal transportation. The saucy and flirtatious dance moves of the Zumba, a Latin style of dance, was one of many exercises that had attendees gyrating around the gym at the Spartan Complex as part of the 18th annual Aerobicthon on Friday. Students show off final projects at Computer Engineering Expo

Students showcased their final computer and software engineering projects in the Barrett Ballroom Saturday. Among the 200 projects presented were a Smart Home and a remote-controlled Army tank with full shooting and driving capabilities. "This is called a capstone project where at the end of the degree you bring it all together in one project," said Sigurd Meldal, the chair of the computer engineering department. (2) comments
