Preparing for the worst: <br>UPD stages shooting

University Police Officers, armed with real weapons and fake ammunition, ran up the stairs in MacQuarrie Hall Friday morning in search of the "shooter."

Privacy rights cited in aviation dispute

SJSU administration has filed a legal response to a lawsuit against the university - a lawsuit which seeks acquisition of a report regarding SJSU's aviation department.

In a close race last week, students elected Sigma Alpha Epsilon leader William Vosa Cavu-Litman to the Associated Students presidency, over current A.S. director of internal affairs Ann Grabowski. Joining Cavu-Litman will be two additional members of the fraternity who ran in uncontested races, including vice president Albert Hsieh. (0) comments

Today kicks off the first day of Sustainability Week at SJSU, during which the Environmental Resource Center is holding a series of discussions, panels and events on sustainability and going green.

"Its main purpose is to increase awareness of sustainability at SJSU," said Megan Fluke, director of the center, "and what students can do to reduce their ecological footprint. (0) comments

The day before the Phi Kappa Phi honors initiation ceremony, Gus Lease, SJSU history professor for 58 years and former president of Phi Kappa Phi, was laughing about the projected turnout.

"We've had something over 500 guests and parents say they're coming, and (Engineering Room) 189 only holds 220," he explained with a chuckle, adding that the predicted number of 500 doesn't include the 451 students being honored. (0) comments

Four-twenty is not just associated a time and date. The number "420" is related to the use of marijuana and the drug itself.

According to University Police Department Sgt. John Laws, marijuana use on SJSU campus on April 20 (4/20) has not been a problem.

"At this time we are not anticipating any extra activity for us to be responding to and dealing with," Laws said. (0) comments

Across the street from SJSU, the Grace Community Center held a brunch to introduce the center to students who may be unfamiliar with the 37-year-old center.

Located on East San Fernando and 10th streets, the center serves the social, recreational and therapeutic needs of adults with mental disabilities. (0) comments
