Bicycle policy to change

A proposed new policy that would permit non-motorized vehicles such as skateboards, roller/inline skates and scooters as well as bicycles is being evaluated by the Office of the President, said SJSU Parking Traffic and Transit Advisory Committee Chair Linda Roper. (2) comments

Magazine focuses on  abroad students

Cafe Abroad InPRINT, a new magazine touting itself as "the next development in study abroad," is now stocked by the Study Abroad office. Campus Village Evacuated

Water flow alarm kept students out of rooms until 1:45 a.m.

The San Jose Fire Department responded to a water-flow alarm tripped on the sixth floor of Campus Village Building B just before 1 a.m. Monday, forcing student residents to evacuate, police officials said. Sgt. John Laws of the University Police Department said a water-flow alarm "indicates that the sprinkler system is in use, therefore the fire department should respond. (0) comments

Minority graduation rates 'one of the lowest'

Graduation rates for black and Latino males at San Jose State University are "truly dismaying," said Ralph A. Wolff, Western Association of Schools and Colleges Committee president and executive director, in a July 6 letter to President Don W. Kassing. Wolff's statement was in response to SJSU's Educational Effectiveness Report, which was sent to the committee and outlined educational goals for the campus. (0) comments

Gender ID study excludes SJSU

For some students at SJSU, the gender they identify with internally doesn't match up with the anatomy they were born with. A recent nationwide study listed college campuses that provide specific protections and services to these students. SJSU did not make the list. (0) comments

Academic Senate sets sights on plagiarism

Suggests places students can find help

San Jose State University's fourth annual Academic Integrity Week begins Monday, offering four days of workshops and panel discussions on topics such as how to write a scholarly paper and how to minimize the risk of plagiarism while writing papers. The weeklong event was planned with help from Associated Students and will begin at noon today in Engineering Room 189 with a panel discussion of integrity in government. (0) comments

BERKELEY - Higher education leaders tackle financial issues this week with California State University trustees considering paying top brass more while University of California officials look at raising professional school fees. At Cal State, the nation's largest four-year system with more than 400,000 students, trustees meeting today and Wednesday in Long Beach are set to vote on raising executive pay by nearly 12 percent, a proposal that has been widely criticized.
