Students taste hospitality

As an end-of-the-year project for several classes and internships in the department of hospitality management, students planned and directed a food- and wine-tasting "extravaganza" for more than 300 guests Thursday night at the San Jose Holiday Inn Mediterranean Center.

After nearly two years of intense contract negotiations, the California Faculty Association has ratified an agreement between it and the California State University board of trustees. The contract ensures that all 23,000 lecturers, librarians, counselors and coaches in the 23-campus CSU system will receive a minimum of a 22. (0) comments

The California Democratic Party passed a resolution last week at a statewide party convention opposing student fee hikes and academic preparation cuts at the state's public university system. Wiggsy Sivertsen, San Jose University's director of counseling services, will be stepping down from her position after this semester, she said. The move will become official on Aug. 1, Sivertsen said, after 11 years of holding the position. "I really am in the twilight of my career," Sivertsen said. (0) comments

A new waitlist program will be implemented beginning this June coinciding with San Jose State University students buckling-in for a ride on the registration rollercoaster. The sometimes-stressful process of trying to add a course that is filled to capacity may become a little easier as the improved waitlisting process will be available to students during the advanced registration period of June 11 through Aug. What started out as a class project has turned into a "revolution" for nine students in Wenshu Lee's Media Response and Criticism communications studies class. Sean Horan, a junior majoring in communications studies, said he and his fellow classmates had to pick a topic that is not covered by the media and bring it to people's attention. (0) comments

Eleven interns from San Jose State University will personally hear engines rev, tires screech and people cheer for their favorite racecars this summer when the Grand Prix motor races come to downtown San Jose in July. It will be the third race in San Jose, but this will formally partner the Grand Prix event along with the Canary Foundation, a cancer research organization, with SJSU's Career Center. (1) comment
