Spartan Stadium turns 75

Abstract:
"San Jose State College should have a stadium," reported the San Jose College Times on Oct. 14, 1932. "With the crowds that would undoubtedly be attracted to such a stadium, and the games that would be possible if seating accommodations were offered, it would be a means of profit to San Jose State....

The Spartan Stadium was once home to pro-soccer leagues. The school touts this fact as a badge of honor. But there's a good reason it isn't any longer: The now-75-year-old stadium is too dilapidated and is desperate for some serious remodeling.

The San Jose Earthquakes, our Major League Soccer team, was moved to Houston, Texas, because of this run-down stadium, and because of some serious mishandling by the SJSU administration. When the owner of the Oakland A's agreed to buy the Quakes team and put it back in San Jose, negotiations once again fell through about the quality of the stadium, and many soccer fans still hold a bitter grudge against SJSU for it. The Quakes now play at Santa Clara University, and SJSU misses out.

Do some more reporting and find out why the deal unraveled. You'll find some very interesting things.

Here we go..

On the 75th Anniversary of Spartan Stadium a disgruntled soccer fan trying to put down SJSU. Those soccer fans are a classless bunch and full of lies. There were no negotiations, it was "the A's owners'" way or the highway. Nobody asked the club to come back from Houston after they USED Spartan Stadium and left us for dead. Now were telling you to take your lies and low ball offers back to oblivion. We've got a Western Athletic Conference Championship to win. Houston beckons.

BTW, the field and the 20,000 fans yesterday looked great!

Spartan stadium should be expanded to 50 thousand seats. The expansion will attract major universities and more T.V. coverage. This means more money for Spartan athletics.

Silicon Valley companies could donate money for the expansion. They get a bigger venue to advertise, during televised games.

San Jose State could attract pac ten, big twelve, acc and sec teams to the stadium. T.V. and a 50,000 seat stadium would draw these teams to San Jose.

The stadium could also host a new years eve bowl game. The larger stadium would also mean increased money from ticket sales.

Go Spartans!
