Ex-cheerleader's lawsuit close to settling

Abstract:

A partially paralyzed former cheerleader who sued San Jose State University for $30 million is "very close" to settling her case out of court with the school, a lawyer representing the school said in court Tuesday.

Lawyers will now try to finalize the details of the settlement agreement in the next 60 days, and plan to return to court on May 8 to give the judge an update on where settlement talks stand. The exact amount of money the school will pay to settle the case, if any, remains unknown.

Rechelle Sneath was an 18-year-old freshman when she fell and was paralyzed from the waist down while practicing an aerial routine with her fellow Spirit Squad members on Jan. 7, 2004.

This story is useless without pictures of said cheerleaders.

Heidi Bobeda (Current Head Coach of SJSU Cheer Team

Hello,
My name is Heidi Bobeda and I am the current head coach of the new San Jose State Cheer Team. I would like it to be known that SJSU Cheer has had a very successful year. In the light of such a sad situation, I feel it important to recognize the positive contributions this team has made to the university over the past couple of years. My husband and I (both former collegiate level cheerleaders) have worked hard since restarting the program two years ago to establish a safe and sound environment. Our goal is to move San Jose State Cheerleading forward. The current cheer team takes pride in bringing Spartan spirit to football games, men's and women's basketball games, a variety of community events, as well as competing nationally this past February. We are currently holding open gyms for our 2007-2008 team. If you are interested, or would like more information, please contact Coach Heidi Bobeda at hbobeda@as.sjsu.edu

The post by Ms. Bobeda doesn't seem appropriate in this context. I am offended and can't imagine how the now paralyzed ex-cheerleader would feel reading that little "go team!" promo. Disgusting.

What are you doing, Heidi? Tracking all of the articles having to do with this girl's paralysis so you can run damage control for the university? This isn't the place for propaganda. If the article was libeling your program, then fine, but otherwise keep your cheering on the sideline.

As a cheerleader I am sure Rechelle knows there are risks. I have seen many cheerleaders fall and break ankles, along with other injuries. I feel very sympathetic about what happened but to her but to sue SJSU for this does not make sense. The US Government sent my brother to Iraq where he was killed. Does this mean i should sue our government? There a risks in each and everything we do and in some cases it is taking personal responsibility for our own demise. Look at the statistics of cheerleader incidents where these things have occurred. http://chrissyfitness.blogspot.com/2008/06/cheerleading-injuries.html

I don't know what is about, but I definitely don't agree with this kind of behavior when it comes to certain people. And I am sure that the ones I am talking about perfectly understand what I am saying.
